Expanded storage space

Fortunately, you can use an external hard drive on most Android TV boxes to add more storage space, and you can even use an SD card on some models to make the expansion process easier.

There's no universal method - it all depends on what your device supports. The good news is that you can add an external hard drive to your Android TV device. If your device has an SD card slot, then simply insert one and format it for internal storage using the second half of the tutorial above.

Rearrange the apps

Just like on your phone, you can choose the order of your apps on Android TV as long as your box is running Android 6.0 and higher. It's actually quite simple to do.

Long press the icon you want to move, when the screen goes gray, move the icon to the position you like, use the "Select" button to delete the icon, and finally click "Done". Rearranging home screen icons is not a difficult task.

Control from your phone

One of the main reasons I prefer Android TV is because it has a dedicated remote control - I just like being able to control it in a more traditional way. However, if you don't have a remote handy, you're not completely out of luck - you can actually control Android TV directly from your phone.

Beyond the Play Store

One of the best things about Android is the flexibility to install available apps outside of the official store - this is called "sideloading". While it's pretty simple on Android phones and tablets, it's a little more complicated on Android TV.

In a nutshell, you need to go to Settings > Security & Restrictions to enable Unknown Sources, and then install ES File Explorer from the Play Store. From there, you can get the APK files from your Dropbox or Google Drive folders and install them directly on your TV.
